I play the clarinet and it rocks! The oboe is pretty awsome too but if you want something different I think you should take up the didgery doo!!!

Of the saxophone and trumpet, I prefer the saxaphone. The baritone also is great, but the cello and base cello are wonderful. I started to love the last two when I heard of Noe Venable. Her music is phenomenal and she uses the cello and base cello for quite a few songs. Check her out on mySpace. She has four songs you can listen to on her page. You probably know what the instruments sound like as a musician, but I can’t help but pass her music along to others… The link is below.

If I were you I would choose the saxophone out of those two instruments. The saxophone has the same note fingering as the flute, so this means that you could perhaps pick up some flute playing skills as well if you wanted to, making you an even more versatile performer. The saxophone is also much cooler than the trumpet (just think of all those jazz saxophonists, like Lisa Simpson!!)

Trumpet!! definetly!! i play the flute (in band) but at the beginning of last year i played the trumpet, but i had 2 switch instruments because of my screwed up schedule. id choose trumpet. the flute rox 2 but it takes a while. so yeah, theres my choice. or a piccolo they are so mall, theyll fit in ur pocket!!

I say flute or clarinet. They both sound so beautiful!

I would suggest the Oboe, as the oboe is a very under represented instrument in our military bands, and could be a very lucrative career military or otherwise.

Out of the two you’ve narrowed down to, I’d probably lean more towards the sax if I were you… it’s sexy, sleek and it can be used in more genres of music than the trumpet!

Have fun!

If it’s going to be an instrument you play for a long time, pick whichever you like best. By that I mean look at several things…

What kind of music do you want to play? ((jazz, pep, celtic, etc))
Do you like low or high octaves?
Do you like major or minor keys better?
What kind of sound is your favorite? ((for instance, I like minor keys with ominous sounds better than joyful pep band music))

I had to make this decision with an orchestra instrument, and I chose Viola because I enjoy having a compact instrument with low octaves. Just listen to some samples of all instruments you are considering, and pick your favorite.

If you can’t decide after all that, flip a coin or play both!!

Hope this helps!!

I would choose the flute, or some other sweet woodwind!

Sax or trumpet would be cool, but you should see if someone will let your try theirs out first and see which one you can make a better sound on.

As a clarinetist, I am of course partial to clarinets, but I would recommend the sax because it is relatively easy and will allow you to pick up additional intruments like flute/bassoon more easily as the fingerings are similar.

well apparantly saxophone is way easier to learn than trumpet. in the classical style, I prefer the trumpet. I’m pretty sure it’s rather difficult to play though. Saxophone is cool because it is usually used as a jazz idiom…and I wish I could play jazz. Actually, if I could change instruments (I play viola at a conservatory) I would probably choose french horn because it’s beautiful.

The bass guitar is a great combination of percussion and piano “theory” technique, what ever you want to call it. I think you will find it easy to relate to the bass guitar with your background in music

I’m a flute player but I’ve always wanted to try the french horn, although it is so hard to play.
